Good Friday @ Sower

For the first time at Sower, we will gather on Good Friday to worship and read through scripture as we celebrate the work that Christ did on the cross for all of us. We hope you can join us on Friday, March 29 at 6pm. The events of Good Friday were horrible, yet necessary, as Jesus became the ultimate atonement for our sins, to reconcile us to God once and for all. He was arrested, stood trial, was sentenced to…

Sundays @ Sower

Whether it’s your 250th Sunday or first time attending Sower Church, we cannot wait for you to join us at our 9:00 AM or 10:30 AM service! Sundays at Sower are special. It’s the one day of the week we gather to worship Jesus, listen to a pastor’s teaching, get connected, and enjoy the sweetness of fellowship. What to Expect As you walk up to the door, you’ll notice a friendly face opening the door. He/she is a part of…

Join us either at our 9:00 am or 10:30 am service! Invite someone to join you. A friend. A co-worker. A neighbor. A family member. Whoever you’re praying for. One person. Two or three or four or more! He is risen, indeed!…

Thailand Mission Trip

At Sower Church, we believe that God has called us to go make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). We want to try and obey in that calling and grow the heart for overseas missions. This May, we are sending a team to Thailand for a 10-day mission trip and partnering with the International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries in Bangkok and Chiang Mai (northern Thailand). We hope that this will be the start of a larger partnership with those missionaries…

Hickman Church Plant

Back in December, we announced the exciting news that we would be planting another church! Our first church plant, led by Pastor Derek Rempe, was in Highland, Kansas. And now, less than a year later, alongside Country Bible Church – a church partnered with us in the Lincoln Bible Collective – Sam Larson and his family will be helping start a church in Hickman, Nebraska. Sam has been a member of Sower Church for the past two years, led one of our Community Groups, and…

Fall Launch: Here We Come!

With another fall semester set to begin, our college ministry is ready! Over the summer, our college ministry rebranded to Christian Challenge, continuing the mission to make lifelong, faithful disciples of Jesus Christ at UNL while committing to the local church! With the rebrand came a new logo, designed by our very own Chloe Bartle. The logo is a crown and symbolizes King Jesus, the One we serve. Each side of the crown resembles a “C” which together signify Christian…

Introducing Highland, KS Church Plant

For the first time of our church’s history, going back to the beginnings of our first church in 1983 in Lincoln, we are planting a church in Highland, Kansas, led by Pastor Derek Rempe. Derek, along with his wife, Shannon and their son, and baby on the way will partner with the NorthRidge Church Network, churches that exist to “Reach and Equip People for Christ without Borders.” The Highland church will become the sixth church in the network that include…

Easter @ Sower

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.  His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not…

Ministry Spotlight: Youth Group

We’re all about building our next generation! Our Youth Group is all about equipping parents and teens to be fully-devoted followers of Christ. 1.) Purpose of Youth Group? To assist parents/guardians in discipling their teens to follow Christ as they move into adulthood.  2.) Meeting times/days? Regular Youth Group meetings are the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. We also have a once a month fun/outreach activity the third or fourth Friday of the month.  3.) Who leads the group?…

Sower 2021

With 2021 coming to an end, as a church, we have much to be grateful for and to celebrate for all that God has done. Restoration City Merge In August, we merged with Restoration City Church. What a blessing to have pastors Dan Coke and Derek Rempe join our pastoral leadership team, and for Alex Bartle, Chloe Bartle, and Ryan Lovie to join our college staff team. The Restoration City Church faithful strengthened our community groups and church. The RCC/Sower…

Sower Summer Highlights

Summer has come to an end with school starting again. The end of summer is often bittersweet but let’s take a look at some of our Sower summer highlights!

Missionaries Update: Brock & Megan Langey

Since that summer 2014 mission program that took Brock and Megan to Alaska, there was that hope that one day they could return. Alaska held a special place. It was where they met and where they both felt that God was calling them to do full-time college ministry. At that time, Brock and Megan were not married. She, from Missouri, and he, from Mississippi, returned to their home states, but they reconnected after that summer, talking more often and sharing…

Sower Church & Restoration City Church Merge

Churches grow and change. This is normal and healthy and should be expected. In seeking growth, churches may look to expand, add more services, raise a new pastor, send missionaries, etc. By God’s grace, we have reached a point in our history where He has led us to merge with another church in Lincoln, Restoration City Church. Since January, Restoration City Church has used Sower’s building for their Sunday services at 4pm. Pastor Dan Coke has preached at Sower twice…

Next Step Class

God has been doing wonderful things at Sower Church, and all glory goes to Him for growth and new visitors each week, and this amid a pandemic. Because of this growth, it’s important that we share who we are, what we are, what we do, how we are structured, where we’re going, and why we do what we do with those who eventually consider Sower their church. Every fourth Sunday of the month, Pastor Mike Whitney will hold an introductory…

2020 Reviewed as We Look to 2021

Let’s be real, Church. 2020 was not the year we had planned. In January, we rebranded as Sower Church and celebrated all that God had done in our history as a church replant, allowing us to move forward and carrying the mission to reach our city. A global pandemic in March changed everything for everyone. The spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) caused fear and anxiety, even among believers. Though Scripture is clear that God has given us a spirit…

Uncommon Christmas

This year at Sower Church, we are looking forward to both the anticipation and the reflection of the season. Our December series, Uncommon Christmas, will cover stories you probably have not heard before.

Campus Fellowship Gears up for Fall & Beyond

When Zane and Faith Sherrer were hired as the new Campus Fellowship directors, they expected to be able to lead a college ministry without restrictions and guidelines to follow, the ones that have become so common during a global pandemic. Covid-19 changed everything for all us, including how two new college directors would approach their new position and upcoming school year. The vision never changed, though. With the fall semester underway, Campus Fellowship still hopes to reach many students so…

Visionary Youth

Sower Church, along with University Church and Restoration City Church, has partnered with Visionary Youth, a Lincoln-based organization that provides free haircuts along with access to basic grooming and hygiene products, clothes, coats, and personal care items for low-income youth. Formed in 2010, and officially becoming a non-profit organization in 2019 by Kwabena (KB) Mensah, owner of Oasis Barbershops in Lincoln, Visionary Youth has served over 3,000 young people and their families with free haircuts, school supplies, personal hygiene needs…

On Race, Riots, and Reconciliation

“There is a direct relationship between a person’s grasp and experience of God’s grace and his or her heart for justice.” Tim Keller, Generous Justice During the past week, protests and riots broke out in Minneapolis and across the country, including our city of Lincoln. They came as a response to the death of George Floyd, who died after a police officer pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck, even as he pleaded that he could not breathe. This is just…

Meeting a Need During COVID-19

When COVID-19 began to spread rapidly in the U.S., health professionals and first responders would soon encounter a shortage of face masks nationwide, including here in Lincoln. Noelle Petersen knew she could help. Back in March, Noelle joined a group on Facebook, the LNK Community COVID Crafters, to sew homemade masks for Bryan Hospital, the first major medical facility in Lincoln to request homemade masks. She received five free mask patterns and began pattern testing for her husband, Jordan, who…

Online Now: Church

Online Church. Virtual Church. Livestream Church. Whichever words you want to use, the global pandemic COVID-19 has forced us to cancel our regular weekly Sunday service, ministries, and Community Group meetings until May, at least meeting in person. But it’s in times like these that the Church continues to be that, a Church. We may not gather in groups, but we still are the Church. Now more than ever, our community needs us to be the salt and light during…

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement

LIVESTREAM 10AM SUNDAY MORNING Dear, Church. The spread the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused fear and anxiety, even among believers. Scripture is clear that God has given us a spirit of love, not fear, and that He, ultimately, is in control, trustworthy, and good. May we experience peace in the midst of these circumstances as we dwell on the truth of God and His sovereignty. This does not mean we should be careless or reactionary, but rather be aware and work…

Beyond the Brand

From the initial teaser of the logo on January 5th, to the official unveiling of our new church name on January 12th, to sporting new t-shirts and hats, it’s been quite the month, hasn’t it? It is an exciting time for our church, and we can give all the praise to God for building our church over the years by bringing faithful men and women who love and worship God in all they do. Sower Church is now in a…

A New Era Begins

In the fall of 2012, a small and struggling church in Lincoln, Nebraska came to the pastors at Candlewood-Omaha requesting help. If this small church didn’t receive help, they feared they would have to close their doors. They wondered if Candlewood-Omaha would be interested in allowing them to merge with their church. The two pastors at Candlewood prayed about this request. Was this what the Lord had for Candlewood? Planting churches was always a desire of the church, but a replant had…

Fall Happenings

By the chill in the air, it sure does not feel like fall anymore, but we sure can praise God for all He has done in our church this fall. Here’s some highlights: By the chill in the air, it sure does not feel like fall anymore, but we sure can praise God for all He has done in our church this fall. Here’s some highlights: Baptisms Nikki, Joshua, Renys, and Felicity chose to get baptized in front of our…

Restore Campaign: Sunday School Rooms

It was your generosity that allowed for a much-needed update to our Sunday school rooms. Back in April, we announced the launch of our Restore Campaign, a one-year financial commitment to remodel our church to help facilitate our growing attendance and our increased ministry opportunities for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the summer, work began upstairs. Y’all came and did the demo work like you were Chip & Joanna Gaines. A work crew then installed new floors upstairs and painted so we could…

Restore Campaign: An Update

Your generosity was a game-changer. Back in April, we announced the launch of our Restore Campaign, a one-year financial commitment to remodel our church to help facilitate our growing attendance and our increased ministry opportunities. But mainly,  we hope to play a vital role to restore our city for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, increasing our community involvement and neighborhood impact. You all were asked to pray about how God would want you to be part of advancing the Gospel…
