You never know what’s going to happen in a year when you start out. You don’t know who you’re going to meet, how the people around you are going to change, or how you are going to change. As a student, you might not know what your major will be, who your roommate will be, where you will work, or how much you will weigh at the end of the year. You probably don’t realize what you’re going to learn in school, the discoveries you’re going to make about yourself, and the discoveries you’re going to make about God. Most of all, you have no idea how God is going to go about answering your prayers. What an adventure life is! You never know what’s going to happen next.
Taking time to consider the year past is always a humbling experience for me. It’s crazy to me how much can happen in one year, and a lot happened this year in the The Rock-UNL. It’s been a year of growth for the whole group: new faces, changed lives, and changed plans. As the The Rock-UNL became a solely student group this year, it started out meeting in the dorms, but later shifted to meeting in the Union again. Having a few of us in the dorms was huge for our group, and we enjoyed access to a rich network of friendships. For me, my not-so-random roommate, Melanie, became one of my best friends, and I had a blast with the friends I found in many of the other girls on my floor.
Many members of The Rock went to the Fall Retreat in September, a bunch of people went to Faithwalkers and heard life-changing truth, and right after that, Kevin Jacobson moved down and stepped into leadership with The Rock UNL. Not only did two members of our group, Kacey and Melanie, put their trust in Christ, they also got baptized. Many others turned to God this year, and drew closer to Him. Also, many members of our group went on the spring break trip to Denver, CO and grew closer together.
After spring break, things only ramped up, as The Rock continued to pursue its passion of getting closer to God and others. And this is only a small snapshot of all that has happened this year! These events represent story after story in the lives of many people. Looking back over the past year, there is a lot to remember, a lot to be thankful for, and a lot to trust God for in the future.
